ENGL1006: Queer Literature

3 CreditsLiterature

Infamous author Oscar Wilde was imprisoned for gross indecency—one of the historical punishments for queerness. Are queer books and authors inherently indecent throughout literary history? Will they become more immoral or more accepted in our future? Today, society’s judgments and punishments begin online. Queer Literature will introduce you to not only controversial and groundbreaking texts from queer literary history, but also to contemporary texts, particularly those by nonbinary and trans authors encountering this generation’s online backlash in the name of decency and family.
